The day it arrives
is the youngest day that board will ever be.
It is said that hinoki cypress gradually strengthens over about 200 years after being cut down. After its time standing in the mountains comes to an end, the tree begins to live a second life in a different way. The reason for letting the lumber rest for several years after milling is to allow it to acclimate to this second phase of its life.
